In this meme, The Martian's Matt Watney is pictured slowly decaying in his space chamber on Mars with an upturned cup with liquid seeping out onto a mat he is sitting on. He then sees an approaching space shuttle landing, quickly puts on his space suit, and runs out to meet his rescuers, exclaiming, "Thank god you're here! I had to drink my own piss for two months!" One of the astronauts rescuing him, however, replies, "Dude, there's water right here." This meme relies on the new movie The Martian, and the new evidence for water flowing on Mars, as well as a certain level of disgust at the thought of having to (in this case, unnecessarily) drink one's own urine. The comments for this meme generally addressed the idea that, most likely, the water wouldn’t be beneficial for the stranded astronaut. One user, Jebus-Christ, added that, “unknown and probably dangerous microbes in it that could no doubt kill you in absurd ways,” while Hawk 310 states that is was “just filled with calcium perchlorate.”
